"We first launched in 2015 and have a shop in the barrio of Salamanca and another one in Lavapiés" explains Berta from tuuulibreria.org. "People can decide what to pay for the books or opt for a simple voucher system: three books for €5 or seven books for €10."
The store is packed with books and accepts donations in all languages - though the majority of their books are in Spanish, English, French and German. They also donate books themselves - recently helping out el Colegio Público de la Guindalera with their feria del libro to raise funds for 6º Primaria's end of year trip. This generosity and community spirit is embodied in the manifesto that appears on the store's website:
"A society that reads is happier more ethical and more productive."
And the shop has some fantastic concepts too. From 'Book Tinder' where books are wrapped up with just a small clue on the front cover as to what they may contain, to 'Prohibited Books', which are also wrapped up with a hint as to where and why they were banned. 'Surprise Books' is another section, where clients can pick up a package to take home with only a small hint of what might be inside.
In the main Spanish section of the store, books are broken up into sections for young readers or specific areas of interest. And Berta is always on hand to help out with specific queries. “Lanzamos por primera vez en 2015 y tenemos una tienda en el barrio de Salamanca y otra en Lavapiés”, explica Berta de tuuulibreria.org. "La gente puede decidir cuánto pagar por los libros u optar por un sistema de vales simple: tres libros por 5 € o siete libros por 10 €".
La tienda está a tope con libros y acepta donaciones en todos los idiomas, aunque la mayoría de sus libros están en español, inglés, francés y alemán. También donan libros ellos mismos - recientemente ayudaron al Colegio Público de la Guindalera con su feria del libro para recaudar fondos para el viaje de fin de curso de 6º Primaria. Esta generosidad y espíritu comunitario se plasma en el manifiesto que aparece en la web de la tienda:
"Porque una sociedad que lee es más feliz, más ética y más productiva."
Y la tienda también tiene algunos conceptos fantásticos. Desde 'Book Tinder', donde los libros están envueltos con solo una pequeña pista en la portada sobre lo que pueden contener, hasta 'Libros prohibidos', que también están envueltos con una pista sobre dónde y por qué fueron prohibidos. 'Libros Sorpresa' es otra sección, donde los clientes pueden recoger un paquete para llevar a casa con solo una pequeña pista de lo que puede haber dentro.
En la sección principal en castellano de la tienda, los libros se dividen en secciones para lectores jóvenes o áreas específicas de interés. Y Berta siempre está disponible para ayudar con consultas específicas.
