“My passion is to help new mums who are away from their family networks”, Clarissa the founder of Charlie’s Footsteps says. Her unique online store aims to be a community hub for mums, offering not only high-quality baby and toddler items but also frequent blog posts with advice drawn from her own experiences as a mother. “The idea for setting this up came even before I had Charlie. Lots of my friends in the UK were having babies and I couldn’t find the sort of gifts here in Spain that I wanted to send to them.” Clarissa moved to Madrid in 2013 and loves the vibrant city with its strong community spirit. When she fell pregnant in 2019, her need for specific baby products became more urgent - especially those focused around baby-led weaning. She set up Charlie’s Footsteps in January 2021 and the response has been very positive.
“I think my star products are cutlery and a sensory travel pillow that babies can play with. I’ve got some Spanish clients who absolutely love the design of the weaning coveralls I sell - and the fact that they’re not in the typical pink or blue colours.” Although the majority of her customers are foreigners living in Spain, she does have a growing market of Spaniards who are attracted to a more modern style of baby rearing. “I would love to sell to more Spanish people - I intend to launch a bilingual version of my site in the coming months - I really want to help as many people as possible!” Clarissa also wants to try and become as sustainable as possible. Most of the products she sells are made from durable silicone or wood and she avoids single-use items and plastics as much as possible. "Mi pasión es ayudar a las nuevas mamás que están lejos de sus redes familiares", dice Clarissa, fundadora de Charlie’s Footsteps. Su tienda online tiene como objetivo ser un centro comunitario para las mamás, que ofrece no solo artículos de alta calidad para bebés y niños pequeños, sino también un blog con consejos extraídos de sus propias experiencias como madre. “La idea de organizar esto surgió incluso antes de que tuviera a Charlie. Muchos de mis amigas en el Reino Unido estaban teniendo bebés y no pude encontrar el tipo de regalos aquí en España que quería enviarles". Clarissa se mudó a Madrid en 2013 y ama su fuerte espíritu comunitario. Cuando quedó embarazada en 2019, su necesidad de productos específicos para bebés se volvió más urgente, especialmente aquellos enfocados en el ‘baby-led weaning’ (alimentación autoregulada por el bebé). Fundó Charlie’s Footsteps en enero de 2021 y la respuesta ha sido muy positiva.
“Creo que mis productos estrella son los cubiertos y una almohada de viaje sensorial con la que los bebés pueden jugar. Tengo algunos clientes españoles a los que les encanta el diseño de los babis que vendo, y el hecho de que no están en los típicos colores rosa o azul". Aunque la mayoría de sus clientes son extranjeros que viven en España, tiene un mercado en crecimiento de españoles que se sienten atraídos por un estilo más moderno de crianza de sus bebés. "Me encantaría vender a más españoles. Tengo la intención de lanzar una versión bilingüe de mi página web en los próximos meses. ¡Realmente quiero ayudar a tantas personas como sea posible!" Clarissa también quiere que Charlie’s Footsteps sea lo más sostenible posible. La mayoría de los productos que vende están hechos de silicona duradera o madera y evita en la medida de lo posible los artículos de un solo uso y los plásticos.
