“I’ve always loved making things, ever since I was a little girl.” Ana tells me from her spacious haberdashery shop on c/Pilar de Zaragoza. “My mum taught me a lot of knitting techniques and my aunts and grandma were always making things too.” Having worked in graphic design for a few years and sick of staring at a screen, Ana felt the pull of making things with her hands again and decided to open this store over three years ago. “I’ve been selling wool for three winters now!” As she puts it.
The shop is a crafters paradise. Wools of different shades and thicknesses, cotton reels, buttons, needles, different types of materials and a small selection of pattern books too. In one corner a large table and chairs is set up for the monthly classes of knitting and crochet that the shop offers. Clients come from far and wide to get their supplies, often taking advantage of ordering online and picking up in store - although a home delivery service is also available. Although Ana doesn’t live in the barrio herself, she really loves it and it was the most obvious choice for setting up her shop. “It’s so nice and this street in particular is wide so people have nice strolls by in the sun. It’s a street people will often go out of their way to walk along as it’s so calm and lovely.” It’s certainly a lovely part of the barrio, and with La Vie En Rosa on the corner it makes for the perfect paseo for gift and needlework supplies shopping.
"Siempre me ha gustado hacer cosas, desde que era niña". Me cuenta Ana desde su espaciosa mercería en c/Pilar de Zaragoza. "Mi madre me enseñó muchas técnicas de tejido y mis tías y mi abuela siempre estaban haciendo cosas también". Después de haber trabajado en diseño gráfico durante unos años y harta de mirar una pantalla, Ana sintió el tirón de hacer cosas con sus manos nuevamente y decidió abrir esta tienda hace más de tres años. "¡He estado vendiendo lana durante tres inviernos!" Como ella dice.
La tienda es un paraíso para los artesanos. Lanas de diferentes tonalidades y espesores, bobinas de algodón, botones, agujas, diferentes tipos de telas y también una pequeña selección de libros de patrones. En un rincón se vea una gran mesa y sillas para las clases mensuales de tejido y gancho que ofrece la tienda. Los clientes vienen de todas partes para obtener sus suministros, a menudo aprovechando el pedido online y la recogida en la tienda, aunque también está disponible un servicio de entrega a domicilio. Aunque Ana no vive en el barrio, le encanta y fue la elección más obvia para montar su tienda. “Es muy agradable y esta calle en particular es ancha, por lo que la gente puede pasear agradablemente bajo el sol. Es una calle que la gente se desvía para ir a un sitio para pasar por aquí, ya que es tan tranquilo y encantador ". Sin duda, es una parte encantadora del barrio, y con La Vie En Rosa en la esquina es el paseo perfecto para comprar artículos de costura y regalos.
