Marta opened this delightful treasure trove of a shop on 8 March 2010, pointing out to me that it coincided nicely with International Women's Day. The business is aimed at decorating homes and gift buying and the shop is packed with all sorts of lovely items. She stocks Mariquita Perez dolls and products from German, English and French brands. Everything is chosen carefully, as is the quality/price relationship. From Barcelona based Cerabella scented candles to toys for children, paper weights and tech gadgets, there’s something for everyone. The relationship she has with her clients is also very important to Marta. Having lived in Guindalera for over 35 years, a lot of friends of her family pass by and it’s obvious what a great connection she has with her regular customers.
When talking about Guindalera, Marta couldn’t be more effusive: “I love it, it’s like a village. When I decided to set up the shop I knew it had to be in this neighbourhood. It’s so nice to live and work in such close vicinity, although things are complicated at the moment.” She points out that lots of artisanal shops have shut down over the years and the premises have been left empty. “Aesthetically the barrio has changed a lot, it’s improved on the one hand by young people moving in and they’ve made the area more modern and appealing to younger people but it’s a shame that local commerce seems to be suffering so much.” There is hope for the future though, as she tells me that the local town council has agreed to stopping cars pass along c/Eraso one Saturday a month from the springtime, to allow the shops along there to open up and display their produce on the kerb side. Let’s hope more initiatives like this will give the support that is so desperately needed to local shops.
Marta abrió esta tienda encantadora el 8 de marzo de 2010, y me señaló que coincidía con el Día Internacional de la Mujer. El negocio tiene como objetivo la decoración de hogares y la compra de regalos y la tienda está repleta de todo tipo de artículos preciosos. Tiene muñecas de Mariquita Pérez y productos de marcas alemanas, inglesas y francesas. Todo se elige con cuidado, al igual que la relación calidad/precio es bien pensado. Desde velas perfumadas Cerabella hasta juguetes para niños, pisapapeles y aparatos tecnológicos, hay algo para todos. La relación con el cliente también es muy importante para Marta. Habiendo vivido en Guindalera por más de 35 años, pasan muchos amigos de su familia y es obvio la gran conexión que tiene con sus clientes habituales.
Al hablar de Guindalera, Marta no podría ser más efusiva: “Me encanta, es como un pueblo. Cuando decidí montar la tienda supe que tenía que estar en este barrio. Es muy agradable vivir y trabajar en una zona tan cercana, aunque las cosas están complicadas en este momento ". Ella señala que muchas tiendas artesanales han cerrado a lo largo de los años y los locales se han quedado vacíos. “Estéticamente el barrio ha cambiado mucho, ha mejorado por un lado con la llegada de los jóvenes y han hecho que el área sea más moderna y atractiva para los más jóvenes, pero es una pena que el comercio local parezca estar sufriendo tanto”. Sin embargo, hay esperanza para el futuro, ya que me cuenta que el ayuntamiento ha acordado detener el paso de los coches por c/Eraso un sábado al mes a partir de la primavera, para permitir que las tiendas de allí abran y expongan sus productos en las aceras. Esperemos que más iniciativas como esta brinden el apoyo que tanto necesitan las tiendas locales.
