"The dust, the silhouette of the beautiful Umbrella Acacia behind the African setting sun and the call of the African fish eagle are all part of my DNA," Sandra, founder of Agora Africa says. She's originally from Johannesburg, South Africa and says that growing up there was a privilege and a joy.
Sandra fell in love with her Spanish husband in South Africa and they decided to move to Spain. It was then that she started thinking about ways of “bringing Africa to Europe.” She'd always loved African artwork and collected African antiques - added to this was her experience in the travel and tourism industry - so it was a match made in heaven!

Agora Africa was set up with the focus on finding unique, sustainable pieces from all over Africa. Sandra's aim has always been to be a provider of gorgeous gifts and home decor items but to also support local businesses in Africa. In this era of non-sustainable, cheaply-made, mass-produced products from huge corporations, it is even more important to support small producers.
Some of the products Agora Africa stocks comes from female-led businesses that incorporate tiny Japanese beads into gorgeous items. Another great product is their sustainable storage jar that comes from the entrepreneurs in Malawi who hunt for wine bottles that have been discarded outside restaurants. The bottles are then taken back to their workshop to have the top part removed with a clever rope device before fitting a gorgeously handcrafted mahogany top on. And another star product are the ‘Siesta Animals’ that are also hand carved in Malawi out of Jacaranda wood.
"I want to support all these incredible hard-working people and ensure that their culture and craft is maintained. And I want others to learn about my fascinating continent and to get closer to it through my products and stories," Sandra says. Otro gran producto es su frasco de almacenamiento sostenible que proviene de los empresarios de Malawi que buscan botellas de vino que se han desechado afuera de los restaurantes. Luego, las botellas se llevan de regreso a su taller para quitar la parte superior con un ingenioso dispositivo de cuerda antes de colocar una tapa de caoba magníficamente hecha a mano.
